The episodes this season really do just keep getting better and better. I was talking to a friend yesterday and he asked what I was really enjoying this summer and True Blood came up. I just couldn’t say enough good things about how great it’s been. It’s kind of funny that when this show started I wasn’t sure about it, and nearly wrote it off. Now, I can’t wait for Sunday nights to come. I guess I shouldn’t be shocked that HBO did it again. On to the episode.
Last night’s episode, Release Me (which could have so many meanings for so many characters) started off right where we were left last week. Sam is being held at MaryAnn’s orgy, Sookie is being held at the Fellowship of the Sun, Bill is being held by Lorena at the Hotel Carmilla, and Jason is being held by Sarah although not truly against his will. I’m going to go through this character by character instead of the order it happened.
At the orgy Sam is only able to escape after Andy come stumbling in and causes a diversion. Why wasn’t
Andy affected by MaryAnn and in a trance? Do you have to drink her kool-aid or does is the trance cause just be being near her? After the diversion, Sam turns into an owl and flies away to safety. Sam then confronts Daphnie about what MaryAnn is? Of course all those that had read the book, knew that MaryAnn was a Maenad, a ancient follower of Dionysus. This explains her control over the people of BonTemps. We also learn that she is obsessed with Sam, because he escaped her. I’ve read a few interviews where MaryAnn is described as being not an evil character. I have to say I don’t know if I agree with that. She seems pretty bad to me. Of course at the end of the episode, MaryAnn rewards Daphnie by having Eggs stab her.
Back in Dallas we have Bill being help against his will by his maker Lorena. We also learn what happens when vampires don’t sleep during the day, they get the bleeds (this kind of stuff along with the whole vampire hierarchy is one of the reason I love this show). The flashbacks were boring, but we did learn that in 1935 Lorena released Bill and he’s been on his own since then. While she might have released him in 1935, she doesn’t seem of having any intention of doing it now. Despite Bill’s urges to save Sookie, he can’t get away from Lorena.
Sookie is of course still locked in the basement of The Fellowship of the Sun with Hugo, who Sookie finds out is the real traitor. They are interrogated by Steve Newlin, and he learns that Sookie is Jason’s sister and leaves quickly. Sookie tries to reach out to Barry, the other telepath she met to call for help.
After Jason and Sarah Newlin have sex in the church, she is weeping with joy and tells him that he is the man she should be with and they should tell her husband. Jason, remembering all the guns convinces her to wait. Jason decides he’s had enough of The Fellowship of the Sun and tries to leave. He is picked up by Steve Newlin and Gabe who believe that he is in league with the vampires and take him out to the woods to kill him. Of course Jason thinks it’s because he slept with Sarah, but Steve has no idea about that. Jason is able to escape, and run away, but he is tracked down by Sarah who was told that Jason is a traitor by Steve, and the last thing we see is her raising a gun and shooting at Jason.
Gabe returns to where Sookie and Hugo are being held. He beats Hugo badly and begins to try and rape Sookie when she is saved by the ancient vampire sheriff Godric.
Has everyone bought their Tru Blood yet?
