Vegitarian- American Indian Word for Bad Hunter
In the past few weeks I’ve talked about that one contestant that always sticks around too long by always being among the worst, but never the best. OF course this is going on this season with Robin. She’s been in the bottom 8 times so far this season, but still sticks around. The longer she stays the more I think the judges lose their credibility. I guess this has always been my biggest problem with Top Chef. I hate the fact that the contestants are judges solely on that one challenge and past performance doesn’t play into it at all. It’s the reason that Hosea and Stephanie won Top Chef in back to back seasons.
Last night the chefs were greeted by Padma and chef Paul Bartolotta for the quick-fire. The chefs were challenged by TV Guide to use a classic TV show and create a TV dinner style meal. Kevin got
Sopranos, Eli got Gilligan’s Island, Michael got Cheers, Jennifer got Flintstones, Brian got M.A.S.H., and Mike got Seinfeld. The biggest surprise wasn’t that Kevin won, or that Robin had one of the worst dishes, but that Mike had never seen an episode of Seinfeld. That is just crazy to me. For their elimination challenge the chefs are told they are going to be cook for a special event at Tom Colicchio Craft Steak at the MGM Grand.

The chefs spend all night planning what type of protein they are going to cook the next day. When they arrive at the steak house they see all the meat and act like kids in a candy store. That’s when Tom walks in with his special guest Natalie Portman, or as Eli knows her Queen Amidala. One look at her and you know she’s gotta be a vegetarian. All that planing is out the window and now the chefs must come up with a vegetarian dish for Natalie Portman and her guests.
They all struggle a little bit, of course they would rather be cooking meat, and in the end its Kevin, Michael V., and Eli in the top; with Kevin taking home the win. With only 7 left it’s not hard to figure out who the bottom three are. Jennifer, Robin and Mike make up the bottom three and at the end of the day Mike goes home leaving Robin to fight again.
Thoughts and Observations:
- After Mike was told he was going home he went over the Jennifer and she gave him a pretty serious kiss. So serious in fact that Gale Simmons looked very surprised by it. Were Jen and Mike a secret couple during filming? She also told him she loved him before he left the stew room. After all the focus that they put on Hosea and Leah last season you would assume that they would do the same if something similar was going on this season.
- Kevin is a force to be reckoned with. He is easily proving himself to be the best chef in the house. Of course this means that he will finish second and a less deserving chef will win it all.
- I now want Michael Voltaggio to go home as badly as I want Robin to go home. There is no other way to put it, the guys an asshole. When Kevin won, all Michael could do was trash his dish. The guy is a cocky jerk. I’m also sick of the fighting between the brothers.
- There were some great quotes tonight such as Padma’s “Like a little prick on the tip of my tongue” and Mike’s “I’ll cook anything, I’ll cook a dog.” Watch out for PETA.
