Recently released on Disney Blu-Ray and DVD was Jerry Bruckheimer’s G-Force. This movie is an animated action film, full of explosions and chase scenes. The “secret agent” aspect of a group of FBI-trained guinea pigs was a little over my kids’ heads, but they were fairly entertained by the constant action. The photo-realistic rodents on Blu-Ray quality video is sure to please any kid with a Zhu Zhu pet on their Christmas list this year.
The Blu-Ray version of the movie comes in combination with a DVD copy as well as a digital copy that can be played with iTunes or Windows Media Player. The Blu-Ray disc contains standard audio and subtitle options including the English audio in 5.1 DTS-HD. It also contains several bonus features, including my kids’ favorite, the music videos. Anything involving cartoons and singing is entertainment gold in my house. There is also a few throw-away features, specifically “Blaster’s Bootcamp.” Who’s idea was it to put Tracey Morgan in a kid’s movie anyway? He may be great on 30 Rock, but I think this movie is a stretch for him.
All in all, this Blu-Ray/DVD combo is what we’ve come to expect from Disney: high quality animation, good audio/video options, but unimpressive bonus features. The quality of animation in this movie, and it’s integration with live-action are technically superb, but we’ve become spoiled with quality animation, and this is simply just not a great movie. With all of that said, my kids will probably watch it too many times to count, and so will yours.
