After rewatching last season’s finale, I couldn’t help but post a few random thoughts. This is not a recap of the episode, that can be found here, but rather a few fresh thoughts as I get prepared to enjoy the final season.
If this season’s premiere is the “beginning of the end” then was the finale “the end of the beginning?”
I couldn’t help but watch this episode in awe, particularly at how Locke’s character played out. It was like watching “The Sixth Sense” the second time. It is just as good the second time, but it is a completely different movie.
The more I watch this episode with anticipation of all of the change to come, I can’t help but think that very little is actually going to change. The overuse of the phrase “what’s done is done” haunts me. I have a feeling that Miles’s assertion that the detonation of Jughead doesn’t prevent the incident, but rather IS the incident will turn out to be correct.
Finally, I think that although we are intrigued by the moment-to-moment activities of the characters we love, they will ultimately prove to be fairly insignificant. I think that the “chess match” between Jacob and his nemesis will prove to be at the center of everything. Much more important than Jack vs. Sawyer, or even Ben vs. Widmore.
I would guess that season 6 will open with the opening of Jack’s eye, as the camera pans out we see that he is on the original Oceanic 815 flight. They hit turbulence, but this time pass through without any problems. It will seem as though everything has changed, but I don’t think that will be the case. The good news is I’ve only got one more week to wait. Be sure to check out my recap here following the premiere.
