Monday night’s episode of Damages, “Flight’s at 11:08, pitted Joe Tobin (Campbell Scott) and Leonard Winstone (Martin Short)
against Patty Hewes (Glen Close) and Tom Shaye (Tate Donovan). Joe and Leonard were trying to get Danielle Marchetti (Madchen Amick) on a flight out of the country, while Patty and Tom were trying to subpoena her as a witness.
After Joe backed into Danielle, he called the family attorney Leonard Winstone to help him. While waiting for the doctor to arrive to check Danielle, Joe wants to know what Leonard knows about Danielle and his father. Winstone claims to “be in the dark.” However since Louis Tobin wants Danielle out of the country, both Joe and Leonard feel she must know something.
The doctor arrives and feels that Danielle probably has broken ribs and a concussion. However, since he is on the Tobin payroll, he says she can fly if she doesn’t get worse.
At the same time all this is going on, Patty is meeting with the DA, Curtis Gates, and asks him to issue a subpoena for Danielle to keep her from leaving the country.
Gates reminds Patty that she is a court appointed attorney and must follow the rules now. (yeah, right Mr. DA)
Tom has gone to the house where Danielle is staying knocks on the door and peeks in the windows only to see a glass of ice water. Thinking no one is there, he takes the license plate number of Joe Tobin’s car and makes note of the broken tail light. He does not notice Tobin hiding in the car. This was a scene in which I missed Uncle Pete. In my opinion, Uncle Pete brought a more sinister tone to a scene.
Patty calls Leonard Winstone to meet her at her office with a threat to go to the press with details of the affair. Winstone meets with her but is not concerned. He should be though, because Patty has more up her sleeve than going to the press.
Tom comes to realize he does have info to help find Danielle and reports it to Patty.
Where is Ellen (Rose Bryne)during all this? She is having dinner with her family that she has a tenuous relationship with, at best. Her sister is having marital problems and Ellen promises to help her. However, later Ellen finds drug paraphernalia in her sister’s bag. Ellen, then calls Patty to asks if Patty found Danielle. Since Ellen’s lead led to connecting Danielle to Louis Tobin, is she calling in a favor?
More questions and observations:
Why would Leonard Winstone be having dinner with Marilyn Tobin’s hairdresser?
Ellen is carrying the Chanel bag that Patty gave her and that later the homeless man has in his cart.
It seemed Danielle wanted to cooperate with the DA’s office. Will she follow through and speak to Chris Sharp (Darren Goldstein)?
Why was Wes brought up at Ellen’s house? Ellen says they are no longer seeing each other and that she has lost track of him. Last we saw him, he had taken Patty to the hospital, and she was asking who he was. Would Patty just let someone who saved her walk out of her life or were the writers just tying up a loose end?

Let's not forget that Joe has been drinking–is this going to be relevant? And he obviously was having an affair with Danielle before he went into rehab. But I'm confused about who Wes is.

Wes was Ellen's boyfriend last season.

I never would have thought that the 2 best shows on television, Damages and Breaking Bad, would both be from FX.
